Indexing dataset.fields[n] instead of fieldbyname is faster but relies on a stable field order: without persistent fields, that order matches the data cursor's own field order; any persistent field declared on the form or datamodule comes after the controller's own fields, in an undefined relative order. For fast, order-independent access, prefer the field components from the 'Dbf' palette tab instead of indexing by position.
